Our Story
Mountain living isn’t for everyone—it takes grit, determination, and a deep appreciation for the land. That’s exactly what drives Daniel Orr, the owner of Mountain X.

Born and raised on Colorado’s Western Slope, Daniel has always thrived in the outdoors, whether for work or adventure. He built his career in demanding environments, starting in the oil field doing environmental work. His job was to ensure drilling operations left no lasting impact on the land—handling everything from road maintenance and erosion control to chemical spill cleanups and land restoration. Working under the strict oversight of government agencies, he learned the importance of precision, accountability, and leaving things better than he found them.

Seeking new challenges, Daniel moved to the Front Range and became a foreman for one of the largest retaining wall builders in the western U.S. Overseeing multimillion-dollar, highly engineered projects, he helped construct the roads, bridges, and flood control systems that you most likely pass by everyday! His work spanned commercial, DOT, and even FEMA projects, including critical infrastructure repairs after the devastating 2013 floods in Longmont.

Despite the experience and stability, something was missing—the mountains still called. Daniel had always dreamed of not just living in the mountains, but working in them. That dream led him to Idaho Springs, where he founded Mountain X; built on hard work, skill, and an unwavering respect for the terrain and the challenging environment it brings.
